Home insurance with a mortgage in Poland: bank requirement vs real protection

When you buy a property with a mortgage in Poland, home insurance becomes part of the process almost automatically. The problem is that many owners satisfy the bank and still remain underprotected in everyday life.

What the bank usually requires

The bank mainly wants to see that the pledged property has basic protection against major events, especially fire and similar structural risks. That may be enough for the loan file, but it does not automatically mean the policy is strong from your perspective as the owner.

What matters to you personally

After moving in, other risks become more practical: water damage, renovation-related loss, appliances and contents inside the flat, private liability and sometimes landlord-related concerns. This is where the difference between a formal banking policy and real household protection becomes visible.

Where confusion appears

Many people assume that if the bank accepted the policy, the issue is solved. In reality the banking minimum and a well-built home policy are not the same thing. Sometimes only a few additions are needed to move from formal compliance to working protection.

What to compare

Do not look only at the insured sum. Check which risks are included, whether finishing works and contents are covered, whether private liability is included and how claims are handled. Those details matter even more if the property was recently renovated, newly furnished or rented out.

If you want, send us the policy you already have or the bank requirement. We will help you see where the mandatory part ends and where genuine protection for your home begins.

You do not have to figure it out alone

Describe the situation, your current policy or a contract clause. We will explain what is usually worth checking and what the next sensible step looks like.
